Update on Al-Kafi English Translation It is disheartening to mention that although the English translation of al-Kafi, volumes 1 through 8, was completed long ago; it still remains unavailable for the readers, the followers of Ahl al-Bayt, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, in a printed book form. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, through Ahl al-Bayt ‘Alayhim al-Salam has granted great potential to the Shia Muslim community for progress, however, because of ignorance and petty-politics, their tremendous spiritual wealth remains unexplored. Without Ahl al-Bayt, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, there is no life. Without learning the teaching of Ahl al-Bayt, there is no Ahl al-Bayt in one’s life. Today, Ahadith of Ahl al-Bayt is the only source to learn about them. The best source of Ahadith of Ahl al-Bayt, ‘Alayhim al-Salam is al-Kafi. Shia Muslims love (Ahl al-Bayt) and they enjoy doing so. This joy becomes real when one reads all of al-Kafi. If you like to experience such a tremendous joy, then you must read all of al-Kafi and do so many times over. Certain sources and resources of the Shia Muslim community were expected to make the publishing of the English translation of al-Kafi possible for the followers of Ahl al-Bayt, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, but because of petty-politics, they did not do anything other than cause wasteful delays for al-Kafi in reaching the readers. Now, this is a direct appeal to the readers, among the followers of Ahl al-Bayt. You must make al-Kafi part of your household library. Without any doubt, just the presence of this great collection of Ahadith of Ahl al-Bayt in your home library will certainly have a tremendous positive effect on you and your children. Our next project:
Translating Al-Kafi, volumes 1-8, has been a mesmerizing
experience. We can not wait to continue with the next project,
which is to complete the translation of all remaining Ahadith of
the fourteen Ma'sumin which are not recorded in 'Usul, Fru' and
al-Rawdah of al-Kafi.
The difficulty that one faces is that there is no book available that independently has all of such Ahadith. Fortunately, Jami' Ahadith al-Shi'ah in twenty five volumes has about forty-four thousand hadith which includes all of the sixteen thousand Ahadith of al-Kafi, thus, after their being subtracted leaves approximately twenty-eight thousand hadith which are not mentioned in al-kafi. This book Jami' Ahadith al-Shiah was compiled under the supervision of Marhum Ayatu Allah Borujerdi and Marhum Ayatu Allah al-Khoee. It is mentioned in the introduction of this book that Ahadith quoted therein are from al-Kafi, Man layahdaruhu al-Faqih, al-Tahdhib and al-Istibsar as well as al-Was'il and Mustadrak of al-Wasa'il and many other books of Hadith. In the introduction it also is mentioned that Ahadith quoted in this book are not repeated, regardless in whichever book it was originally recorded. This book is an ideal handbook for lectures on issues of Fiqh (law) which are delivered by an Ayatu Allah for the students attending his classes. It is meant to replace Wa'il al-Shi'ah and Musatadrak of Wasa'il al-Shi'ah.Our goal is to benefit people who are not specialist in Fiqh (laws). We therefore, will not translate all the details mentioned in this book which makes it easy for an Ayatu Allah (specialist) in Fiqh. In this project we will not include the Ahadith that are translated from al-Kafi or perhaps not those Ahadith which deal with acts that are obligatory or prohibited because in many cases in our practical life we need, in such matters, the fatwa of our Mujtahid to properly fulfill our obligations as the Shari'ah requires. Therefore we will only translate from this book those kinds of Ahadith which deal with acts of desirable nature, those dealing with issues of moral discipline, or the principles of belief. We pray to Allah to grant you happiness and good opportunities all the time.
